Japan

Japan Japan is a culturally rich country with state-of-the-art technology. Regarding religion, despite the presence of ancient religions such as Shinto and Buddhism; including "new religions," the process of secularization of Japanese society is far advanced. As far as Christianity, introduced in Japan by the Jesuit missionary Francisco Xavier in the year 1549, throughout history was known periods of violent persecutions to the Christians with numerous martyrs. Currently, the Local Church is made up of sixteen dioceses. Catholics represent only 0.3% of the total population. We, Missionaries of Mary, have been present in Japan since 1959. Today, our "Delegation" consists of three communities located in the following cities: Izumi: Headquarters of the "Delegation" and the "Izumi Katorikku Yochi-en" Maternity School (In the Archdiocese of Osaka). Sennan: Headquarters of the formation house (Archdiocese of Osaka). Miyazaki (Diocese of Oita). In the respective communities, the sisters dedicate themselves to several activities: direction of the Maternal School and didactic activities; university education, pastoral activities (pastoral care of migrants - pastoral care of prisoners) and missionary activity. A sister of the community in Izumi city has for years been dedicating herself - full time - to the activities of interreligious dialogue at the "Shinmeizan Center" (Diocese of Fukuoka).
